Six stories by the Pittsburgh Independent have been named finalists in the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania’s annual Golden Quill awards.

The nominations reflect a broad range of coverage from the publication’s first eight months of existence, having launched May 1, 2022.

This year's contest was open to works of written, video, audio, and digital journalism published in 2022. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony May 30 at Rivers Casino.

The annual awards competition, now in its 59th year, recognizes the best storytelling and accountability work in Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio and Northern West Virginia.
